A little bit about Walton-on-Thames

New to Walton? Here’s a quick introduction to this fantastic market town on the south bank of the Thames.

This pleasant riverside town nestles in the borough of Elmbridge in Surrey. It’s known for offering the best of both worlds – the natural splendour of the Surrey countryside, and the convenience of suburban London. In fact, it’s just a 25 minute commute to London Waterloo. 

Starting life as a simple river crossing, the village of Walton-on-Thames soon turned into a town after the arrival of the railways. The area is dominated by its iconic bridge, which links the town to the north side of the river. One of the first bridges to be built here in 1750 was featured in a notable painting by the Italian artist Canaletto. 

Today, Walton is a popular and family-friendly area with a thriving arts and culture scene. The town regularly plays host to live music, art exhibitions and community amateur dramatics. Just down the road from the world famous Shepperton Studios, Walton boasts multiple arts venues including the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre and the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse.
